In a recent fundraising email that Terry McAuliffe sent out to the Democratic Governors Association’s supporters list, McAuliffe warns that GOP wins in governors races coming this fall could be “disaster” for the Democratic Party.
There are 37 governorships open in 2010 and, as McAuliffe points out, if Republicans win a solid number of those, up to 30 congressional seats could be in their control.
As he wrote in his recent email, “In almost every state, governors play a pivotal role in deciding where congressional lines are drawn — and we know that Republicans won’t hesitate to abuse that power.”

Perhaps you didn’t know that Terry McAuliffe, former chairman of the Democratic National Committee, wrote a book. It is called, What a Party! and it has been making waves ever since its publication in early 2007. The subtitle of the book is “My Life Among Democrats: Presidents, Candidates, Donors, Activists, Alligators, and Other Wild Animals,” making just the cover so intriguing that you feel a need to open the book and find out what all the fun is about.
Inside McAuliffe tells an irresistible story about politics, public service and the laughter and joy he has experienced as one of the most vocal, active and distinguished members of the Democratic Party.
As one reviewer, Pamela Keogh, described What a Party,
“…the place was packed and McAuliffe had them rolling in the aisles. He is a true believer who practically makes you want to quit your job to join a (preferably Democratic) campaign. I stayed up until 1:00am and finished his book. A great ride, a great read. McAuliffe has been in many powerful rooms, and is not afraid to tell us how the game is played. Fascinating stuff.”

Terry McAuliffe, former Chairman of the National Democratic Committee defended the passage of the much
discussed health care reform bill on the television program Health Care Countdown, a segment of Fox News.
The discussions was lively and interesting, touching on topics such as whether the reform will help to control costs, reduce or increase taxes, and increase the number of people with health care coverage.
When asked whether offers to state representatives of financial packages for their states was a form of a bribe, Mr. McAuliffe explained clearly that the process of politics is a bit like sausage making- it tastes good when it’s done, but you wouldn’t enjoy seeing the process of how it was made. Politics is the art of deal making and persuasion, and if the end result is a positive, constructive health care reform that helps a majority of Americans, then all the unpleasant deals that might have been made was certainly worth it.

Terry McAuliffe has declared his unwavering support for the newly elected Democratic candidate for governor of Virginia, Creigh Deeds. In a statement which can be read in full on McAuliffe’s web-site, he declares that “Virginia needs Creigh Deeds.”
In a list of what McAuliffe believes should be the priorities for whoever leads Virginia he includes solving the problems of high unemployment which is ravaging too many communities and the struggle to send Virginia’s children to college.
McAuliffe believes that Virginia needs a governor who is “committed to getting our economy back on track and creating jobs.” Virginia should be creating the jobs of the future, such as jobs in green and in alternative energy technologies, according to McAuliffe.
Adding that even if Creigh should be voted in to lead Virginia, he will need the help of other worthy leaders, including Jody Wagner as Lt. Governor and Steve Shannon as the next Attorney General of Virginia.

Losing the democratic primary for governor of Virginia has not dulled Terry McAuliffe’s unrelenting ambition and steady drive to continue to work for the welfare of the citizens of the Commonwealth.
Declaring that Creigh Deeds “MUST be the next Governor of Virginia, and that I will do everything possible to help make sure he IS the next Governor of Virginia!” McAuliffe believes that Virginia must carry on in the tradition of Mark Warner and Tim Kaine in order to continue to move Virginia in the right direction.

Conceding the victory of the democratic primary race for governor to Creigh Deeds, Terry McAuliffe expressed his increased love towards the people of the Commonwealth of Virginia and declared that the optimism and determination of the people of Virginia has “not waned” even as many are struggling with economic and other challenges “to get by.”
Explaining that helping people deal with and overcome these struggles is what motivated him to enter the race for governor in the first place. McAuliffe pledged to not only continue, but to step-up his efforts to insure that Creigh Deeds becomes Virginia’s next governor so that “the tradition of Mark Warner and Tim Kaine to keep Virginia moving in the right direction” can be realized.

In his bid for the Democratic gubernatorial candidacy, Terry McAuliffe maintained that it was essential for the state of Virginia to have a strategy that encourages the use of renewable energy sources. At the same time, such a strategy that simultaneously would create jobs would be ideal. Currently there is already a voluntary standard applicable to power companies in Virginia to generate 12% of their power production from green energy sources by 2022.
McAuliffe’s campaign called for making this standard mandatory, and thus not only would the environment benefit, but so would the economy with the creation of many new jobs.

Until this campaign for the endorsement of the Democratic Party to run for governor of the commonwealth of Virginia, Terry McAuliffe was the powerhouse behind the campaigns of many Democratic Party candidates, including Carter, Gephardt, the Clintons Bill and Hillary, and most recently Barak Obama. With this campaign McAuliffe has left the “behind the scenes” behind, and as one of the preeminent political salesman in America, he is now selling himself.
And it seems to be working. Leading his rivals in the polls, McAuliffe promises to lead Virginia into the 21st century with a healthier environment, more reliance on renewable green energy sources, better jobs and job security and more reliable and convenient public transportation. According to a May 5, 2009 survey conducted by Public Policy Polling, Terry McAuliffe has, for the first time since PPP has taken surveys of this campaign, pulled away from his opponents and is leading the other candidates in the race for governor of Virginia.
With the elections looming less than a month away, it is good news indeed for McAuliffe, former DNC chairman and campaign chair for Hillary Clinton’s recent bid for president.
The results of the survey indicate that McAuliffe leads with 30% to only 20% for Brian Moran and 14% for Creigh Deeds. Among women voters McAuliffe is doing even better, with 30% for him versus only 16% and 13% for Moran and Deeds, respectively. McAuliffe is doing even better with African-Americans, leading with 37% against 15% and 10% for Moran and Deeds.
